Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Identify application and data requirements
  • Use system equipment and features to access the control system
  • Monitor glass processing tasks using the operator interface, selecting appropriate controller modes
  • Access required historical data and information from the system
  • Monitor and acknowledge messages and alarms and take appropriate action according to workplace procedures
  • Access and manage advanced control features to meet work requirements

Element: Access control information
  • Access relevant data and information from the control system and drawings by applying systems knowledge
  • Determine status of individual pieces of equipment from control panel readings, and use the information to identify potential faults
  • Minimise fluctuations and variations in the process by interpreting existing trends and control schematics
  • Determine and relate the overall operating effectiveness of the plant area to the required targets for the area

Element: Control process variations and monitor operations
  • Use historical data about plant operations to help identify problems, and process available information to identify potential faults
  • Make required set-point or output changes to meet plant area and process requirements
  • Adjust production in response to test results and control panel information
  • Monitor key process and environmental variables and take appropriate action according to workplace procedures
  • Adjust controller settings according to workplace procedures
  • Optimise plant area according to workplace procedures
  • Undertake coordination with stakeholders external to the plant area according to work requirements
  • Record adjustments and variations to specifications and schedules and communicate to appropriate personnel within required time frames

Element: Facilitate planned and unplanned process start-ups and shutdowns
  • Select and apply procedures for planned start-up and shutdown processes
  • Select and apply procedures for unplanned shutdown processes
  • Implement emergency responses according to workplace procedures
  • Identify and communicate necessary information to all personnel affected by events
  • Log required information according to workplace procedures

Element: Respond to alarms or out-of-specification conditions and control hazards
  • Identify and prioritise system(s) affected by the alarm or condition and take appropriate action according to workplace procedures
  • Respond promptly to alarm or incidents according to workplace procedures
  • Deal with any out-of-specification material according to workplace procedures and communicate problems and solutions to appropriate personnel
  • Record incident information according to workplace procedures and communicate details of the alarm and action taken to the next shift at the changeover
  • Follow up incidents to confirm appropriate action has been taken
  • Identify hazards in the production and processing work area and assess the risks arising from those hazards
  • Implement measures to control risks according to workplace procedures and duty of care requirements

Element: Resolve other problems within scope of responsibility
  • Identify possible problems with equipment, control systems or process to determine if action is needed
  • Establish the possible causes of faults and rectify them using appropriate solutions within one’s area of responsibility
  • Follow initiated control actions until resolution, and report problems outside one’s area of responsibility according to workplace procedures

Submission Requirements

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
